SUMMARY

Based in a district office, the Logistics Specialist II executes the strategies and SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) established by the Logistics team and supports Procurement Shared Services in the implementation of Kiewit Procurement transportation and logistics procedures. This role provides local support for procurement, import, export, transportation and fulfillment in support of internal customers. This involves close collaboration with 3PL (Third Party Logistics) Transportation Coordinators. This position provides key information and support to Procurement and Project Management regarding supply, deliveries and order status from suppliers to internal customers.

This position works within the established policies and procedures of the global guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but is not necessarily limited to the following:

Ensures documentation is accurately processed, distributed and released to carrier, forwarders, customers and agents in a timely manner. Ensures proper transit and customs clearance documentation exists for shipments.

• Prepares all necessary data entry and confirmation of key milestones (departure, arrival, customs clearance, PODs, etc.) as specified by Standard Operating Procedures.

• Drives logistics & continuous improvement activities (storage, shipping) including: inventory control, warehousing, transportation, logistics planning, order processing & customer service. Communicates standard logistics metrics. Resolves quality, service & cost issues.

• Manages international shipping / receiving process, working with Freight forwarders and Brokers to ensure proper documentation is completed to meet all compliance regulations.

• Communicates & reinforces Logistics plans. Maintains clear communication & close cooperation with the Project, Procurement, & Major Suppliers. Works with Quality, Planning, Construction, Carriers and Customers to proactively avoid & resolve quality & service issues relating to logistics.

• Coordinates operational redesign projects to improve performance & meet customer needs. Generates & implements innovations for logistical competitive advantage; supports the logistics team.

• Selects shipment routes, based on nature of goods shipped, transit times, or security needs.

• Reserves necessary space on ships, aircraft, trains and trucks.

• Arrange for special transport of sensitive cargoes, such as engineered equipment.

• Calculates weight, volume, or costs of goods to be moved.

• Complete shipment documentation such as bills of lading, packing lists, dock receipts, and certificates of origin.

• Consolidates loads with common destination to reduce costs.

• Negotiate spot rates with 3PL’s.

• Maintains current knowledge of relevant legislation, political situations, dock worker union strikes or other factors that could affect freight shipping.

• This position may require up to 25% travel.

QUALIFICATIONS

COMPUTER SKILLS

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Power Point, Word, Excel).

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

A four-year college or university degree in related major plus five years experience in a related construction field (at least four of these years in a materials transportation, logistics or expediting position), or an associate’s degree in related major plus ten years experience in a related construction field (at least four of these years in a materials transportation, logistics or expediting management position); or a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) plus twelve years experience in a related construction field (at least six of these years in a materials transportation, logistics or expediting position) is preferred.

Must have a broad working knowledge of all principles and methods for moving materials by air, rail, sea or road including relative costs and benefits.

Strong knowledge of International logistics cost estimating, US & Canada domestic trucking and International logistics is required

Broad knowledge of Power or OGC project materials and engineered equipment is preferred.

SAP Knowledge is a plus
