Primary Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all major engineering interfaces on a large scale or a number of concurrent smaller tunneling/underground projects.

• Identify, brainstorm, scheme, co-ordinate and refine all temporary engineering activities on a large or multiple smaller tunneling/underground projects.

• Manage and implement in service inspection activities and checks on engineered systems and temporary devices.

• Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost saving measures that arise or that may be encountered.

• Manage, mentor, train and develop junior team members.

• Present, coordinate and liaise as necessary with Owner representatives and other 3rd entities.

• Write RFI’s, create submittals, track and submit change order requests.

• Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to assess overall operation. Devise and implement improvements to improve overall operation safety, quality and efficiency.

• Setup, manage and participate in and maintain key project planning from the project inception through construction and to final completion. Manage contract administration (subcontractor/field management meetings for communications)

Qualifications

• Non-compromising attitude towards safety.

• Bachelor's degree in a civil or construction-related field of engineering and ten or more years’ related experience.

• Proven experience with leadership and management of people, communication (verbal and written), planning and organization in tunneling or underground project environment.

• Solid understanding of Tunnel Electrical, Ventilation and other Underground mechanical systems.

• Past experience on Underground and Tunneling projects from initial planning stage, to the final completion and ultimate project turnover.

• Proficient in overall project controls – cost, contract administration and general project scheduling.

• Ability to freely access all points of a construction site, including underground, in wide-ranging climates and environment.

• Knowledge of construction safety and current federal, OSHA and MSHA requirements.

• Understanding of surveying principles and practices; instrumentation, controls, and use.

• Broad knowledge of engineering and construction methods.

• Proficiency in MS Office, experience with civil and 3D design software.

• Willing and able to relocate if required to project locations.

Working Conditions

• Fast-paced project site environment; must be able to interact professionally with all levels of management while safely managing a diversified workload and challenging situations efficiently and effectively; regularly sit, stand, walk and talk and listen; occasionally lift and move up objects up to 50 pounds. Work above and below ground in ambient conditions.

• Travel in the U.S. to project sites as required.
