Position Overview

As a Compliance Supervisor, you will be responsible for hiring and developing a highly engaged team that provides efficient, quality support and outstanding customer service to all areas of the Kiewit organization, as well as following regulations and maintaining company compliance standards. This team is responsible for completing and maintaining compliance for all company-wide I-9s, maintenance of DOT driver files, administration of the DOT drug and alcohol program, and field Certified Payroll functions. This a fast-paced environment in which speed and accuracy are extremely important.

Department Overview

Kiewit Business Services (KBS) is a cross-functional shared service organization that provides the business units with customer-specific services focused on cost and business value. Our services include non-core, yet essential, functions of our businesses including accounts payable, accounts receivable, change control, human capital management, payroll, project initiation, compliance and continuous improvement.

Location

This position is based out of our Kiewit Business Center at 12720 I Street. This is a shared service center in a professional office setting.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of Compliance Specialists which will include training, mentoring, process improvement and providing guidance with technical and personnel issues

  • Provide feedback and encourage learning by team members; create growth opportunities for others, transfer knowledge to others and challenge them to develop their own solutions

  • Articulate clear performance goals and provide frequent performance measurement feedback

  • Establish priorities, allocate time to maximize benefits, manage team resources to ensure the highest level of productivity and accuracy

  • Make clear assignments to team; empower others by extending responsibility and authority; provide timely feedback and follow-up

  • Hold team and others accountable for expected quality, accuracy and customer service levels

  • Pro-actively seek opportunities for continuous improvement within the department and act upon findings to initiate improvements, presenting ideas in a persuasive way to gain support

  • Develop action plans with timelines in order to implement strategy; involve others in the process; incorporate best ideas into plan and gain buy-in through effective communication

  • Provide excellent customer service to all internal and external Kiewit departments; understands Kiewit’s core business and promotes a sense of urgency toward business critical issues

  • Anticipate and mediate conflict between individuals and groups; find a common ground and obtain cooperation

  • Make timely decisions with well-developed judgement, while considering alternatives, risks and other critical decision factors

  • Develop and set a clear and compelling vision for the future, creatively consider alternative strategies to achieve future goals

  • Monitor daily team workloads and assist as backup when necessary

  • Maintain/Create process documents, training material and work instructions as needed

  • Perform various data analysis and reporting

  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required (preferably in Business or Management field)

  • 3+ years' supervisory experience preferred

  • Experience ensuring compliance to I-9s, DOT and related programs preferred

  • Proficient in Microsoft Programs including Office, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

  • Business and management skills: organization and time management, critical thinking, risk mitigation, decision-making and relationship building

  • Leadership skills: emotional intelligence, effective communication, coaching, problem solving, conflict resolution, delegation, talent management and team-building

  • Excellent customer service and collaboration skills; ability to connect and build relationships with others inside and outside the organization

  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills, clearly conveys messages and ideas, gains understanding; generates interest and holds attention, listens and is open to the ideas of others

  • Ability to make decisions and plans based on the vision, direction and long-term strategy of the organization, as well as experience in implementing strategies and of defining and establishing procedures

  • High level of initiative with commitment and ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines while still maintaining high quality standards

  • Ability to motivate and coach individuals to develop their skills enabling them to achieve their best and to contribute to the overall success of the team and KBS

  • Ability to anticipate and identify the root cause of problems, seek and consider alternative solutions, collaborate with others as needed to gain support and implement lasting change

  • Ability to research, recommend and implement process improvements/enhancements to create efficiencies within the department

  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills; ability to use logic and reasoning to analyze and identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems

  • Open to change and new information; able to rapidly adapt to changing conditions or unexpected obstacles; demonstrates flexibility in thought and action

Physical Requirements

  • Travel as needed (<5%)

  • Lifting, sitting, stooping, bending, reaching, climbing stairs, etc.

  • Reading from a computer or laptop monitor for several hours including fonts of various sizes from a variety of sources
