Primary Responsibilities

• Prepare designs for assigned structure(s) including research, system selection, analysis, and drawing preparation on projects ranging from moderate to large in size and complexity.

• Will review estimates prepared by other estimating groups or JV partners to determine completeness of data used, procedures, and will aid in resolving differences in bid items.

• Reviews the Owner’s plans and specifications to develop a comprehensive understanding of the project, which will aid him in developing a plan for the actual construction and which will serve as the basis for the estimate; also reviews all bid and contract documents and reviews Home Office Legal Department opinions.

• Will conduct a site investigation prior to forming a plan of operations to acquaint him/herself with any problems or conditions of an unusual nature that may be present

• Apply department and industry standards to oversee the preparation of calculations, project drawings, and project specifications.

• Will utilize recognized engineer techniques and procedures in conducting the investigation and adhere to standard company policy and procedures in obtaining the complete information required or necessary.

• Research new markets and adapt current process and work flows to successfully execute project deliverables.

• Coordinate with internal and external partners including cross-discipline, construction, vendors, fabricator(s), and owners to address structural-related issues or concerns.

• Support department managers in setting and achieving performance goals for the department.

• Prepares special engineering studies or reports required by the unusual nature of some bid items or conditions. Consults with Owners on various problems discovered during bid preparation, design, rates, schedules, etc

• Must keep current on various trends developments, such as new equipment, methods, and procedures that are developing in the industry and in his/her specialized area (i.e. mechanical, electrical, etc.).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering in a civil or architectural engineering program from an ABET accredited four-year college or university program. Some masters’ coursework preferred

• 3-10 years’ experience in structural engineering and design. Experience in the power industry, electrical utilities or industrial markets, would be advantages, but not required.

• Functional in utilizing spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and computer operations

• Strong communication, interpersonal, leadership and team-building skills.

• Excellent negotiation skills.

• Exceptionally strong attention to detail.

• Knowledgeable in engineering software, specifically SAP2000, SAFE, spMats, L-pile, Mathcad or similar engineering programs would be highly advantages.

• PE license preferred.

• Candidate with EIT and relevant experience will also be considered.

Working Conditions

• Fast-paced office environment; must be able to interact professionally with all levels of management while simultaneously manage a diversified workload and challenging situations efficiently and effectively; regularly sit, stand, walk and talk and listen; occasionally lift and move up objects up to 30 pounds.

• Travel in the U.S. (5-10%).
