Position Summary:

The Mid-Level Concrete Engineer is a team member of Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering Group (KIE). This position’s primary role is to provide support, analysis, and design to Kiewit projects, and have a direct impact to other teams within the district such as permanent design services (PDS) and construction engineering services (CES).

Project involvement can be requested at any stage (Get Work, Build Work) of a project’s life cycle. Get Work project tasks can include proposal development, Task Force participation, technical proposal design including alternative technical design concept (ATC), and proposal cost estimating support. Build Work project tasks can include Task Force participation, development of final designs including but not limited to concrete troubleshooting, development of concrete mixes, preparations of thermal controls, construction engineering, and construction operations oversight.

Projects often rely on KIE, consultants, and or subcontractors for staffing engineering related construction tasks. Typical project deliverables include technical design reports, memorandums, and letters. These deliverables provide technical analysis, technical interpretations, and professional recommendations; all of these project deliverables are subject to KIE’s Design Quality Management Plan.

Concrete Engineering is considered to be a “specialty” engineering service and as such has high visibility with Project upper management where high professionalism is always expected. Project related travel is projected to be as high as 50% and can be anywhere in North America. Continued job related learning (Kiewit University, Professional Engineer Continued Education, personal professional development) is encouraged and expected.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

• Assist with pre-bid evaluation and operation planning (i.e., placing procedures, pumping, constructability reviews, mix design, value engineering, troubleshooting, proposal development, and training.

• Assist in reducing concrete-related quality issues through proactive engagement with Jobsite personnel.

• Developing Concrete related construction specifications

• Interpreting Concrete Materials quality/process control data

• Interpret/learn/apply client specific design methodologies, specifications, technical requirements, and standards

• Develop and maintain internal and external client relationships, including project and non-project related face-to-face meetings

Requirements:

• B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. Master’s degree with emphasis in concrete or related engineering field preferred

• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)

• Ability to travel as the business requires.

• Must be proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products

• Experience with industry specific design software for concrete proportioning, thermal analysis and service life engineering

• Proficient written and verbal communication skills

• 5 - 10 years’ of directly applicable experience; concrete arena (mix designs, thermal control, failure analysis/troubleshooting, technical requirements, testing requirements, applicable codes, industry standards and best practices, ACI manual of concrete practice, etc.)
