Department/District/Project Description

Kiewit Business Services (KBS) is a cross-functional shared service organization that provides the business units with customer-specific services focused on cost and business value. Our services include non-core, yet essential, functions of our businesses including accounts payable, accounts receivable, change control, human capital management, payroll, project initiation, compliance and continuous improvement.

The Payroll Tax and Garnishment Supervisor position is part of the Kiewit Business Services Payroll Reporting Department within the Payroll Services Group.

Position Description

The Payroll Tax and Garnishment Supervisor oversee the Payroll Tax team, Garnishment team and all processes related to this group. This individual is responsible for effective collaboration between internal and external partners to promote efficiency and accuracy in the payroll reporting/tax department.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of Analysts and Specialists which will include training, mentoring, process improvement and providing guidance with technical and personnel issues

  • Provide feedback and encourage learning by team members; create growth opportunities for others, transfer knowledge to others and challenge them to develop their own solutions

  • Articulate clear performance goals and provide frequent performance measurement feedback

  • Establish priorities, allocate time to maximize benefits, manage team resources to ensure the highest level of productivity and accuracy

  • Make clear assignments to team; empower others by extending responsibility and authority; provide timely feedback and follow-up

  • Hold team and others accountable for expected quality and accuracy within payroll tax and garnishment processes; routinely monitor progress of all payroll tax related payments, reconciliations, and discrepancies

  • Develop action plans with timelines in order to implement strategy; involve others in the process; incorporate best ideas into plan and gain buy-in through effective communication

  • Pro-actively seek opportunities for continuous improvement within the department and act upon findings to initiate improvements, presenting ideas in a persuasive way to gain support

  • Responsible for leading day-to-day operations of the department for team members and customers; backup and assist team members as needed

  • Assist and monitor progress of year end activities (W-2, T4, RL-1, Payment Summary)

  • Monitor Garnishment and Tax process with ADP; develop and maintain a positive and professional relationship with the ADP representative

  • Provide excellent customer service to all internal and external Kiewit departments; understand Kiewit’s core business and promote a sense of urgency toward business critical issues

  • Manage assigned cases in Service Now

  • Reliable and consistent attendance

Required Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of computers and experience in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word

  • Leadership skills: emotional intelligence, effective communication, coaching, problem solving, conflict resolution, delegation, talent management and team-building

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to present information accurately, concisely and in a professional manner

  • Ability to clearly convey messages and ideas, gain understanding; generate interest and hold attention, listen and be open to the ideas of others

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills; ability to anticipate and identify the root cause of problems, seek and consider alternative solutions, collaborate with others as needed to gain support and implement lasting change

  • Ability to research, recommend and implement process improvements/enhancements to create efficiencies within the department

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior payroll experience

  • 3-5 years of supervisory experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field

  • Prior SAP

  • ADP working knowledge

  • Lifting, sitting, stooping, bending, reaching, climbing stairs, etc.

  • Reading from a computer or laptop monitor for several hours including fonts of various sizes from a variety of sources.
