The Communication Specialist is responsible for supporting Kiewit’s communication strategy, and particularly the communication for Kiewit Supply Network. This group provides comprehensive procurement services to Kiewit operating districts and projects to manage the supply chain for goods and services. Working closely with partners across the company’s business units, this person will help create, execute and manage messaging and communication strategies while helping leaders and employees identify and address communication gaps.

A successful candidate must be a capable writer and communicator, fast learner, adept at managing multiple responsibilities at once, and able to work collaboratively with business partners at multiple levels. Experience in employee communication and project management will be an important asset to the candidate. This position demands a person with high attention to detail and time management skills to consistently meet deadlines. This role is based in Omaha, Nebraska.

Essential Functions:

• Manage the Kiewit Supply Network brand including the logo, guidelines and templates

• Implement the Kiewit Supply Network Internal Communication Plan to engage and communicate with the department’s employees

• Create and execute effective communication plan to reach external suppliers and vendors

• Monitor and measure the effectiveness of the department’s communication through bi-annual surveys

• Create department collateral including brochures, fact sheets, flyers, handouts, presentations, electronic banners, organization charts and more

• Write and send/post internal announcements for department employees

• Craft and post articles to promote Kiewit Supply Network initiatives and successes to employees

• Assist with monthly senior leadership team meetings

• Plan quarterly in-person meetings for the senior leadership team

• Manage the Kiewit Supply Network group on Pulse, the company’s internal social media site, and post to share information and recognize employees

• Manage the Kiewit Supply Network email distribution list

• Create and implement communication plans for new procurement technologies

• Support the execution of the company's global internal communication strategy to help Kiewit reach its business objectives and deliver against key priorities

• Develop and use effective, results-focused internal communication tools as part of the overall mix of solutions; ensure the consistent flow of key messages through all internal communication vehicles

• Collaborate with other communication and creative disciplines to manage the company’s internal brand and create an integrated, high-performing internal and external communication team


• More than 2 years of communication experience, ideally with a focus on employee communication. A bachelor's degree is required (journalism, communication or related field strongly preferred)

• Excellent writing skills and attention to detail

• Proficient in MS Office Suite. InDesign and Photoshop experience is desirable

• Strong collaboration and client relations skills

• Project management skills; the ability to take a project from concept to conclusion

• Track record of successfully meeting deadlines and project expectations

• An ability to measure internal communication effectiveness

• Experience with a broad range of communication channels (e.g., written, social media, portal) and able to use them strategically to influence and inform important stakeholders
